Our Fishermen

Boy oh boy do the boys in this family love to fish.

My husband has been known, on certain occasions, to take the kiddos out fishing a few times in just one week. They love it. They grow into it more and more each year. Our four year old can easily cast out his line by himself, bait the hook, catch the fish, and reel it in. We like to help in the de-hooking (I obviously don't know the correct word here) of the fish but otherwise he is self sufficient.

If the idea of fishing ever comes up they are immediately ready to go no matter what else they might have been doing. They will fish anywhere, with anyone, at anytime.

They understand the concept of having to catch and release. They know that we can't keep all of those small fish. If they manage to catch anything that has enough meat my husband has no problem filleting it and cooking it up. The kiddos go in spurts telling us if they like to eat the fish or not.

My husband learned to fish from his grandfather when his was a young boy. It is a very fond memory he holds. It is something special that he shared with his grandfather that he didn't do with anyone else. Now he has taught his boys how to fish and to enjoy it and they already show a passion for it. The quality time they have together doing it is fantastic. I hope that they get to fish every year together. Maybe they will be those guys later in life that fly into some lake community on a float plane to fish for days. Maybe they will cherish the memory of fishing at an early age and teach their kids to cast that line just like their great-granddad did.
