Since we live in Texas and have no family here we love to go and visi
t whoever will have us. It is great for mom (to get a little break and get that extra help). We usually travel more when my husband is working a long trip and that way we aren't taking any time away from daddy.
Last week we did a spontaneous trip to Colorado. I took my two kids, and
dog, by myself on a flight. It was my dad's birthday and my younger sister had just had an accident and was getting ready for surgery. The kids had a ball. We flew right into Vail, right into the SNOW!!!
Our first stop was my cousins place. O
ur kiddos all played both indoors and out. They all bundled up in snow clothes and went out in the slushy snow to play. They were wet and cold but didn't mind at all. We even saw a reddish fox run across the field. My youngest got excited and yelled 'dogie'. The best part was that my aunt and uncle were in town visiting as well and the kids were able to bond and spend time with them as well.
Then we headed out of the mountains to my parents place in the front range. The kids love it there b/c my oldest always gets to sleep with Paw Paw. He loves it.
(Actually I don't know who loves it more). The house is stocked with toys and the kids have room to run around. We visited with my grandmother as well who is in a memory care unit. There also was the traditional nightly campfire with smores even in the cold. My dad taught the kids 'I like the mountains' campfire song and they are still singing 'boom di-a-da, boom di-a-da, ...'
The birthday party for my dad was fun. We sang to him throughout the day.
Once the cake was brought out we all gathered around and sang once more. Then my youngest leaned right over and blew out the candle himself. Oops. It was a riot. I loved the look on my parents faces. It was a great memory that I will hold dear forever.
