'EGGS' ???

At the park our kids love to collect these little tiny colorful plastic balls. They find them all over the place. They come in all different colors but always the exact same size. What are they? These two boys of ours look everywhere they can to find them. When searching with a friends one afternoon they decided to call them eggs. The 'egg' hunt happens immediately EVERY time we get to the park. Our oldest son continues to look the entire time he is there. Our youngest gets bored looking and actually takes time to enjoy the swing and slide a little bit. Each 'egg' color will later turn into a different animal once it is hatched.

So what are they? And why are there always more when we get back to the park? One mother offered that she thought they were part of the fertilizer mix the landscapers left out. (YIKES - I certainly hope I am not letting my kiddos play with fertilizer). My husband initally thought they were beads from a broken necklace (but no holes to thread through).

So a couple days ago we were once again looking for the 'eggs' when another friend was there with her two sons. We found an 'egg' and my son got all excited and jumped and yelled and was ecstatic. My friend said 'Oh, we call that 'treasure' .' I laughed knowing that someone else's kids thought they were something special. Then she informed me that her husband let her in on a little secret about what they really were. Are you ready? B B's. Yes, BB's from a BB Gun. Oh no. I am letting my kids collect BB's. And yes, our collection is all in a glass jar that they add to daily with their new 'egg' findings.

I guess that what they don't know won't hurt them. And now this explains why there appear to be more and more each couple days when we make it back to the park. To turn it into something positive - they are cleaning up the earth!
