This week we ventured out on our first bug walk with the local 'Jr Explorers'. Both boys went as the age range went from 2-8.
We arrived at the hiking trail at the state park area to be greeted by a dozen or so other eager bug enthusiasts. The teacher then passed out all sorts of science tools to help look for bugs.
We hit the trail. Talked along the way and everyone was deep in search of any insects they could find. I caught a grasshopper for my boys and that seemed to be a big hit. A cockroach, a beetle, pill bugs, and ants were also caught for investigation.
After the walk, the kids used their creative side to make bugs using craft supplies dumped onto a big picnic table.
Mine didn't want to leave even though it was crazy hot outside. We left with two homemade caterpillars, a butterfly, and a cootie bug. Also the real grasshopper is still with us living in our son's bug home with his other backyard findings. We feed them once a day. BOYS AND THEIR BUGS - YUCK!
