Our youngest did fall in the pool this week. Well actually he jumped. Here is the story. The boys love to pull a 'noodle' under their arms and jump right into the water and swim to the other side. They were playing a game to 'save the turtles' while using their noodles. Well the youngest threw out his turtle and proceeded to jump in to save him without his noodle. I was sitting on the side in a dress watching them play and had to jump in after him. He kept his cool. He surfaced and treaded water, keeping his face above the water the entire time. I calmly talked to him and told him he was doing good and them grabbed ahold of him and took him to the side. It was all very relaxed and an eye opener for me.
Safety is so important with the water. I want my kids to be able to save themselves if they ever fall into the water (or jump again without their noodles).
From this I learned that he CAN survive in the water for short bursts of time. I learned that he panics and forgets to call for help (he only grunted, never asking for mommy or for help). I also learned that his swimming skills are not enough to get him to the side of the pool yet. We'll just have to keep up the lessons and make it happen.
