A New Hobby

SKIING!!!

This was the year that we got our oldest up on skis. Last year he was just potty trained but was nervous to do it. So we waited. My husband and I both decided a long time ago that THESE KIDS WILL SKI (even though we are flatlanders now)!

He just took his first ski lesson out in Colorado and had a great time. My sister works for a spectacular ski hill company and she helped hook us up with quite a deal. Thanks SIS!!!! My parents agreed to watch our little one so we were free to ski!

Our son had a full day lesson with a lunch break. He was ready for ski school and I dropped him off while he was blowing kisses goodbye. He was definitely ready to see me go!

Later I couldn't help myself, so I snuck over (away from the rest of my family) and watched him a few different times during the day. He seemed to be having a great time. He was hugging on his coach and smiling, until he actually skied down the hill. He loved to wear the ski clothes and equipment. He loved the 'magic carpet' to help get him up the hill, he loved his ski coach, but he was terrified to go down the hill.

I watched his first attempt and he moaned as he slowly made his way down. At the bottom he told the coach, as he was crying, that he didn't think he could do that again.

He tried again and I stopped my spying.

I picked him up at the end of the day and he was in great spirits. He wanted to show me how he could ski now. The day was over so he will have to show me 'his stuff' when we get back to ski country again. I was surprised to see that he had a different coach when I arrived. And even more surprised to see it was one of my cousins that works there part time.

(Here is the story behind the new instructor. I guess that Chance was really down on himself and said that he couldn't do it again. The ski instructor told her boss to call his parents and have them pick him up. How sad! Luckily my cousin was close by and heard what was going on. He offered to help out with our son.)
THANKS CUZ

And the rest was history. Our new little skier had a wonderful time (note: Dec 29th is the busiest ski school day of the year!) and wants to ski again soon. He doesn't quite understand that we will have to wait until we are back in the mountains as Texas offers no ski hills.
