Health Nuts

My husband and I believe that we can give our children a special gift. We believe that we can teach them how to be healthy individuals and that will help them throughout their lives.

We exercise with our kids. We go on family runs. We bring along a double stroller so that they can climb right on as soon as they tire out. Our oldest will sometimes go an entire mile before he climbs on board. It is fantastic.

We also play tennis with them. Everyone loves to run over to the tennis courts to get a few games in. This usually entails mom and dad playing tennis with many timeouts and a strategy of trying to have the kiddos retrieve our balls so we can keep playing. Then they get their turns and we toss them ball after ball and let them practice their forearm swings.

Baseball is another big hit with our kids. We have about 30 wiffle balls in the backyard in a bucket and the youngest will bring them to us everyday to get us to pitch to him. When we finish the bucket he gathers them all up to do another batting session.

My favorite activity would be the dancing. I love to dance with my kids. I find a good station and just turn up the music. Sometimes while I'm cooking dinner even. When those perfect songs come on I dance out into the living room and the boys join in with me as we bop about all silly without a care in the world. (Sometimes even up on the table - not good I know - but the music just takes over!)

Some other health approaches that we teach them is in how they eat, to get plenty of sleep and rest, brushing and flossing, and good hygiene.
